Watch out—if you aren’t careful, you might fall through this giant hole in the floor! Well, not quite, but the optical illusion rugs of designer Scott Jarvie will make you think so. Calling the project Void Rug, the unconventional decor is relatively simple in design—consisting of just two colors—yet very visually effective. They're convincing enough to make you think there’s a bottomless crater in the middle of your home.Enjoying the illusion of Void Rug is all about standing at the right angle. Both floor coverings are best enjoyed when you’ve got some distance from them; it makes the sliver of gray look as though it’s really the edge of a deep black hole. If you’re standing on top of the rug, it loses the fantastical effect, but the abstract shapes still add some visual excitement to your space. The contemporary rugs come in two sizes— there is a circular version that’s designed for large spaces as well as a long rectangle that’s meant as a runner for narrow areas like hallways.
