Even we can't figure out what is going on here. On first look we thought we were looking down into a room with weird corrugated walls. Then we thought it must a room with stairs going up to windows and it had a vaulted ceiling. But then we just got confused. The only thing we a sure about is, whoever left those footballs there is just asking for trouble!
This illusion of people walking underwater called The Swimming Pool was created by Argentinian artist Leandro Erlich for The 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan. It's actually a piece of glass with water on top of it, and empty space underneath.. Marilyn Monroe is famous throughout the world. But its not just her talents as a actress that she is famous for. She is also renowned for her iconic lips, which she often shows off with her trademark pout. And if these pictures are anything to go by, it seems this plant is also a fan of the former world famous icon. This unusual plant appears to feature large red lips, just like Marilyn With a scientific name of Psychotria Elata, this species also goes by the fitting names of the Hot Lips Plant, Flower of Lips or even Hooker's Lips. We have added a couple of flag poles with union jacks to this excellent picture by Mark Hare. Believe it or not the little flagpole in the bottom left hand corner is the same height as the larger looking pole over on the right.
This is one of those strange illusions that plays tricks with your eyes. Click the picture for an amazing lager view.
This young lady seems to be able to levitate. She is flying on the beach, or just hovering over it.
The truth of the matter is shown below.
Going up the avenue George V to the Champs-Elysees , the Paris pedestrian has reason to be surprised. From afar he sees a troubled perspective, is the building melting or is it an optical illusion, a reflection, or perhaps even a mirage? Actually the whole building is covered with a canvas painting of trompe o'loeil.
He we have two boys playing football in an alley. The one at the front is taking a little rest and sitting on his ball. The lad at the rear of the photo is struggling to get past his football as it is so huge. So where is the illusion, can you guess? OK, for the experienced eye it is quite easy. The two footballs are exactly the same size!
Blocks and lines is a strange illusion because it makes you think that the horizontal lines in the background are bent towards the middle. Plus the blocks look to be different heights, but they are not. The lines are straight and the blocks are all the same height. The centre piece is exactly the same but has been rotated by 45 degrees which also gives the blocks a 3D feel to them somehow.
Two hidden illusions of a tiger. The one above is our crude copy of an illusion that we a pretty sure you will have seen before. The one below is a little less obvious. Can you find what is hidden in the tigers face?
Here's good trick to try on your friends!
Tell them that glass splits up the different colors of white light and when different colored light passes through glass, it bends more or less dependant on its color. Now write the words CARBON DIOXIDE on a piece of paper in capitals, CARBON in red and DIOXIDE in blue. Put the paper close behind the stem of a wine glass, and look at the words through the stem. The red letters turn upside down, but the blue ones don't. Your friends will be amazed. Here's how it works: As I'm sure you guessed this has nothing to do with the different colors of the words, or of red light being bent more or less than blue light. Actually the stem of the wine glass turns both words upside down, but because DIOXIDE is symmetrical about a horizontal line, you don't notice that it is upside down - it looks the same both ways. |
