Major Drapkin Gallery
As far as we can find out (and if you have any further information please let us know) these illustrations were designed as a set of cigarette cards from the very early twentieth century. Cigarette cards were a very fashionable advertizing aid at that time and still was right up till the 1950's and some even later. This particular set was designed in 1926 for the Major Drapkin cigarette company which was established in 1898. The company was amalgamated in the Rothmans brand in the late 1920s and finally closed in 1947. If anyone has information on the name of the illustrator we would love to here from you.
