The drawings that people get to see afterwards are remarkable, unique, and something they have never been seen before. Upon seeing his creation, it leaves people baffled as they try to interpret the message behind such an odd drawing. His drawings have certainly left a significant impact on people, as they try to understand how Hoekstra’s imagination works.
Redmer Hoekstra: Imagining Thoughts, Putting Them on Paper
After graduating from Zwolle, an art academy in Netherlands, he began his career as a visual artist. Redmer focused his efforts into producing something the world hadn't seen before and something no other artist had produced.
After much deliberation, he became fascinated with the idea of creating unexplainable illustrations of everyday objects that made people pause for a moment and think. It wasn't long when his unconventional drawings became a hit with audiences, garnering him praise in the illustration field.
Hoekstra, through his illustrations, accomplished what he set out to do. His unusual and out-of-the-box drawings impressed audiences and critics alike. People wanted to know how he was able to generate such ideas and display them so meticulously on paper.
Hoekstra’s answer to people’s queries was simple, as a child, his mind often wondered how the world around him functioned. He wasn’t able to give life to his thoughts until he enrolled in the art academy. It was there Hoekstra revisited his past thoughts and began the process of sketching them out on paper. Soon, his illustrations took on a completely new meaning with people trying to base their own logic, theory, and message behind the drawing.
Hoekstra’s message is clear – he wants to get to the root of things by taking them apart and seeing how they work. When he delves deeper into the object, that’s when his imagination takes hold. What’s created on paper is truly extraordinary.
The illustrator’s drawings include a sea turtle with a shell shaped like a ship, a flower created from flies, a newborn baby inside an acorn, a hippo with a body of a train, and dogs drawn as handbags. Somehow, his pictures make sense and always meet with a second glance to understand the meaning behind the pairing of two objects or to ponder over why he chose to create an object in this manner.
Redmer Hoekstra’s artwork, his logic, and imagination are the three main drivers behind his enormous success. His illustrations make you question the world around you, giving you a new outlook on the inner workings of things. Through his drawings, he lets you in his mind and gives you a new perspective on things that may have never crossed your mind. See our gallery of Redmer's art here.
